Our Favorite Places on Shore Drive

Bishard Homes offers a number of homes in the Shore Drive area of Virginia Beach. We absolutely love the lifestyle that the residents of this area have created, and we want to share that experience with you!

Our homes on Hatton Street and in the Bayville community are a part of this beautiful and lively section of Virginia Beach, which is also a part of the Cox High School district.

Here are a few things that make living near Shore Drive so enjoyable:

1. The Restaurants:

Shore Drive is full of an array of good eats, from quality seafood to simple options the whole family can enjoy. Here are some of our tasty favorites:

Bay Local Eatery –  A tastefully unique restaurant both in atmosphere and food, Bay Local offers a Coastal Southern flair that is both welcoming and flavorful. They offer both brunch and dinner, as well as host exciting events such as Bar Napkin Sketch Contests and Ladies Night on Thursday’s. Their eclectic style and energy is something you won’t want to miss.

One Fish Two Fish –  Located in the Pier House on Long Bay Pointe boating marina, this restaurant is a feast for both the eyes and the stomach. Their menu is seasonally inspired by fresh local and organic produce and are known for their excellent seafood and outstanding service.

Simple Eats – With an offering of dishes crafted from fresh and local foods, this farm-to-table restaurant brings the Virginia beach community together through carefully prepared meals. They even offer a space for you to bring your furry companions on their “Doggie Deck” in warmer seasons. This is definitely the place to try for a wholesome dining experience.

The Leaping Lizard Café – Serving local produce from Virginia farms, this restaurant serves delicious lunch and dinner options that are made fresh daily. This beautifully decorated café was even featured on Guy Fieri’s Food Network show “Diners, Drive-ins and Dives” which speaks to its incredible food and atmosphere.

Chick’s Oyster Bar – Considered a “Hampton Roads classic”, Chick’s serves impressively fresh seafood from the bay which is cooked to order for your convenience. Their impeccable service, along with an outstanding view of the water, makes this a key place to try and enjoy.

A Bite of Maine – This restaurant shows that you really can have it all on Shore Drive. Specializing in fresh seafood from Maine, this food shack restaurant and traveling food truck combo bring authentic New England food to the table (no pun intended).

2. The Atmosphere:

There are plenty of unique places in this area that create an opportunity for fun-filled experiences. From games to entertainment to trivia, some great places to try include:

The Shore Drive Farm Market –  Open every Saturday morning from 9 am to noon, this local gem brings a range of fresh produce for the authentic farm market experience. From milk and ice cream to crab soup and veggies to artwork and jewelry, the welcoming vendors have a lot to offer.

Barbeque by Froggie’s –  Along with their awesome barbeque, this restaurant offers live music from a range of bands almost every night.

Pleasure House Brewing – Located a block away from the bay, they are the first brewing company of Shore Drive and are known for their products. They also have weekly events such as Team Trivia Night on Wednesday’s and Crock for a Cause on Sunday’s to benefit K-9 New Life, a local dog rescue organization.

Shorebreak Pizza & TapHouse –  Shorebreak offers classically delicious food options from pizza and wings to milkshakes, amidst an engaging ambiance that allows you to have the full experience. Their TVs and game rooms create a great atmosphere that even the kids can enjoy with their own game room – a truly fun experience that the whole family can enjoy.

3. The Great Outdoors:

There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beautiful landscape of Virginia Beach in the Shore Drive area. You can explore the more tranquil parts that the bay and various parks have to offer. Here are some of our favorite spots that are the perfect place for adventure:

The Chesapeake Bay – Full of rich history, the Chesapeake Bay is a great option to enjoy the beautiful water of Virginia Beach. Much calmer than the ocean, the bay provides an opportunity for relaxation both on the beach and in the water.

Bayville Farms Park –  Established in 1978, this park has a range of outdoor activities to take part in so you can enjoy the warm weather of Virginia Beach. Complete with tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, dog park, disc golf course, and more, the opportunities are endless in this area.

First Landing State Park – Another wonderful park option, First Landing’s 2,888 acres are home to several outdoor options from hiking, biking, camping, and picnics to water-related activities such as swimming, boating, and fishing. This park encompasses part of the Chesapeake Bay Beach as well as 19 miles of hiking trails to satisfy your desires for exploration and relaxation.

Happy Winds Kiteboarding & Watersports –  This company brings outdoor excitement to the next level with their offerings from sailboat rentals to kiteboarding. They even offer a summer kids camp for an ultimate water-sports experience.

Lake Joyce – The gorgeous water of Lake Joyce also paints a picture of serenity, and is the site of our lovely Bayville community. The beautiful reservoir is not only scenic but also functional, with options to boat, fish, and kayak on the water. In Let Fitness Great Neck – More than just a gym, this facility offers personal training, onsite child care, spa services, and nutritional counseling along with an array of engaging fitness classes with lively instructors that will make you look forward to going to the gym.

Studio Bamboo Institute of Yoga – This all-inclusive studio not only offers yoga classes for a range of ability levels, but also hosts teacher trainings and special events and workshops. A truly holistic experience to make you feel simultaneously relaxed and strong.

Food Lion – This may seem like a given, but having a close, reliable grocery store is key to any community. With great service and a range of options for your dietary needs and desires, this necessity is worth mentioning.

Lynnhaven Coffee Company – A great local option for specialty coffee and hand crafted foods, all in a cozy atmosphere that you can enjoy with friends and family.
